Are you a money magnet?
“Rich people believe ‘I create my life’, poor people think ‘life happens to me’” - T. Harv Eker
What’s your number?
This week I gave a power class about the psychology of money. To a wonderful group of female investors and entrepreneurs.
We all want to make more money, by doing what we love. But very few (only two people in the room) actually have a number in mind and know how much they would like to have in their bank account. Most people just want more.
Well, if you don’t know what you want, how will you ever know how to get there?
It’s like driving a car, with no direction. If you knew where you were going, you could plot it in your GPS. In this case your inner GPS (mind).
Once the mind has a direction, you will be amazed how creative it will become to get you there.
However, the route that our mind calculates towards our goal is not always the shortest or fastest one. The mind has a habit of putting roadblocks and detours on our journey, created by our fears and beliefs.
Money as our lover
A powerful exercise we can do to understand what is stopping us from having more in our bank account, is to write a letter to money as if it was our lover. Start the letter with “Dear money, …” and just keep writing whatever comes to mind.
My letter sounded something like “Dear money, where are you? You keep coming and going, no matter what I do. You are so unpredictable! I wish I knew how I could make you come and stay with me, forever.”
That didn’t sound much like a love letter. I just started my own business and I clearly had no faith that I would be able to make money on a regular basis. Some inner work needed to be done!
We are programmed to believe this
The beliefs I have heard most often are “it’s hard to make money” and “money is the root of all evil” and variants of the same theme.
What if we would all believe that money is just an energy, and therefore abundant and can never be depleted? And that this energy can be used for creating so many beautiful things in life?
Feels much better, doesn’t it?
We are very much primed by what have seen, heard and experienced while growing up. Not only when it comes to money.
Money as the root of all good in the world
It is so refreshing to pause and notice in which direction we have put our sails, and decide to go in a different direction. Towards our vision in life. With beliefs that support us and committed to take action towards our goals.
So we become the creator of our life, instead of the manager of our circumstances.
With enough money in our pockets, so we can put our wallet where our values are. By investing in sustainable solutions towards a better world.
That is what this group of female investors stands for. And I am happy to be one of them.
