Get clear about your Purpose

From burned out to feeling alive and on purpose - the first C that changed my life: Clarity

“True happiness... is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose” - Helen Keller

A life without meaning and purpose

If we don’t know what we want, what we stand for, what really ignites us, what gives our life meaning, we are living a life without direction.

A lot of people are quite comfortable living like this: having a job that pays the bills, even though they are not totally happy with their work. It’s safe. It’s predictable. It’s good enough.

But I had this itch that I wanted to do something more with my life. I was fed up with what I saw in the world and I knew I could do so much more. And the itch became stronger and stronger, until I couldn’t deny it anymore. I wanted to be part of the solution!

In the beginning I was really clear about what I did NOT want anymore: keep going as I was doing, with jobs that didn’t really fill me up, trading my hours for money, only to start the same routine the next day again, knowing I had more in me.

What I did know was that I wanted to have more meaning in my life and, somehow, make a difference. But WHAT? I had no clue, not really.

Most people don’t have a clear direction

“A day without intention is a day not fully lived.”

This is the message I got one day during a meditation. Without a clear intention for our life, we live a life based on circumstances. Instead of creating it.

How often haven’t we done things because the opportunity happened to be there, or because that’s what we thought was expected of us, or because it was the easiest route - without thinking whether this is what we really want?

Sometimes we are forced to review our life

Sometimes we (are forced to) pause and review what is going on in our life. We review our relationship, career choice, our goals, how we define success, our values.

What if….we all would have clarity of what we are deep down called to bring to the world? Have a sense of purpose and vision for our life.

Having that clarity surely changed my life! It gave me grounding, day-to-day direction, motivation, inspiration, and encouragement in challenging times. It also sparked my creativity.

Sure, I have my bad days. But my clarity of vision soon helps me get up again.

Create a vision for your life

Creating a compelling future, having a vision for where we want to go, is what pulls us forward in life. Which makes life inspiring and fun!

What if…we would all follow our hearts and create a difference in the world. Because that is what we deep down want: to contribute to something greater than ourselves. A higher purpose. Dig deep enough and you will find it. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Getting Clarity is a great way to start becoming the change you want to see in the world.

In my next blog I will share the 2nd and 3rd C that helped me live an empowered life. C you there!
